The Thomastown Kindergarten is situated in a rural setting in close vicinity to Kilkenny City and is run according to the principles of a Steiner Kindergarten.

We offer a rich foundation for the 2 1/2 to 5 year old child. Our main emphasis lies on creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in which the child is allowed to learn by example rather than direct instructions.

Our activities reflect the concerns, interests and developmental stages of the child and our environment is designed to foster personal and social learning, giving a foundation for later formal learning.

Each day is marked with a different activity integrated into the seasons, days and weeks such as: Watercolour painting, bread baking, bees-wax modelling, art and craft, gardening, music, ring-time, puppet show, creative play and lots of outdoors play. The toys and materials used are natural, stimulating to touch and imagination.

Our snack-times are prepared and shared together using organic ingredients wherever possible and inviting social conversation.

In recognition of its vital role in early childhood education, we offer the children time to play and we hope to offer an education that prepares the child “for life from life”.
